Businesses invited to become part of supply chain for wind farms in the Celtic Sea

Businesses in Wales are being invited to a meet the buyer event to become part of the supply chain for wind farms in the Celtic Sea. The online supply chain event, hosted by Business Wales, Sell2Wales and Floventis Energy, will be held on Friday 30 June.

It is the first opportunity for firms interested in bidding for work in the floating offshore wind market to be introduced to the Llŷr wind farms located 31km off the coast of Pembrokeshire.

The Llŷr developments (known as Llŷr 1 and Llŷr 2) have come forward through The Crown Estate’s Celtic Sea Test & Demonstration leasing opportunity with the two Llŷr 100 megawatt (MW) wind farms aiming to act as pathfinder projects in preparation for larger commercial projects for floating wind in the Celtic Sea.

The projects will test a different floating platform technology to explore and demonstrate the designs and installation approaches. Each Llŷr project will have an operational life of 25 years and consist of six to eight turbines, all of which will be greater than 12MW. Once operational by 2027, they will power around 200,000 homes with 200MW of energy.

Supply chain director Alex Gauntt said:

“This is the first in a series of supplier engagement events that will introduce interested parties to the project and help us to further engage with potential supply chain partners across Wales. We will outline the timescales and procurement process for supply chain opportunities relating to construction, operations and maintenance over the next 25 year period.”

Floventis Energy is a joint venture between SBM Offshore and Cierco and was awarded the agreement for lease by the Crown Estate in July 2021.
