Get on board with HS2

High Speed 2 Ltd (HS2 Ltd) will hold a supply chain engagement summit for small and medium sized businesses in Wales later this month.

The event aims to engage businesses, with an estimated 400,000 supply chain contracts expected to be up for grabs during construction of the first phase of the high speed rail line between London and Birmingham.

The contract opportunities available are not just about track and trains: HS2 Ltd will be looking for everything from engineering solutions to catering services, designers to ecologists and logistics to electronic components.

HS2 Minister, Andrew Stephenson, is hosting an online summit for local businesses in Wales, particularly small and medium sized enterprises who will be able to find out more about the contracts on offer and how to access them.

The supply chain summit will take place online on Tuesday 20 July between 12.00 and 13.00.

Aimed specifically at small and medium sized businesses in Wales, the webinar is designed to give companies in Wales every opportunity to secure the supply chain contracts that are coming with HS2.

Over 2,000 businesses are already working on HS2, with UK-based businesses making up 98% of contracts, 70% SMEs and over 1,000 direct SME contracts.

HS2 has work well underway at over 250 active sites, with £18bn worth of contracts already having been awarded. By the end of 2022, it is anticipated that this will have grown to around £25bn.

Commenting Arfon Consulting’s managing director, Alun Williams, said “I’d encourage businesses in Wales to find out more and get on board”.
